At The Lovén Centre at Tjärnö, unique excursions on the research ship Nereus are available. Conducted by a marine biologist, you can spend 1½ hours looking at plant and animal life from the bottom of the Koster fjord. Visitors can discover the different strata in the water by measuring the salt content and water temperature at different depths. Using a Secchi disc, visitors can also measure the turbidity of the water, as a rough measure of the plankton density.
Tours are conducted on seven Tuesdays during 2011: June 28th, July 5th, July 12th, July 19th, July 26th, August 2nd and August 9th. Departure times are 1.30 PM and 3 PM.
